Dear Sir / Madame:
I apologize for having you receive this email absolutely not requested by you. But given our desperate and limited situation I find myself in the obligation to use this means.
We would like to let you know of the disease of our daughter Isidora, of 3 years of age. She has Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS) and also cronical neutrophenia.
Since the first moment you receive the diagnose you go through different fases. You pass through desperation, depression until you associate and find out that many people have lived or are living the same as you.
The disease has a genetic origin, (ALPS) meaning Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome.
The lymphocytes and other cells of the immune system suffer what is called programmed cellular death or apoptosis. Normally, in the thymus, the lymphocytes are trained to recognize what is proper to what is strange. Those that recognize what is proper are called auto reactive lymphocytes and are eliminated immediately. In patients suffering from ALPS, this mechanism of elimination is not working properly. The auto reactive lymphocytes persist in circulating, propagating to lymphoid organs like the spleen and the Lymph nodules, producing autoimmunity.
As you may know, any kind of disease generates expenses. At this moment we are passing through a difficult economical situation for which we are obliged to write this letter to ask for your volunteer cooperation.
